The Knoedler Library’s Auction Catalogues on Microfiche Composed of more t sales catalogs, the majority from the late 19th and 20th centuries, this microfiche set provides a valuable source of information on provenance and pricing, particularly because many of the sales catalogs were annotated by Knoedler staff.

As part of the acquisition of the M. Knoedler & Co. records, one of the America’s oldest and most preeminent art galleries, the Getty Research Institute Library gained two rich resources on microfiche for exhibition research, documenting select art exhibitions worldwide from Knoedler Library (Salons and Annual Exhibitions).

The Knoedler Gallery Archive illuminates the business relationships and records of one of America's oldest and most preeminent art galleries. Founded in as the New York branch of the French firm Goupil & Cie before the creation of most museums in this country, the Knoedler Gallery was able to play a central role as a conduit for the masterworks that established American collections.

Photocopies of 19th century and other rare Canadian catalogues have been acquired and the Library also holds three substantial microform publications of auction catalogues: the Knoedler Library, Art Sales Catalogues from – (on microfiche) and Sotheby’s Catalogues of Sales, Part III from – (on microfilm).

My library must have kept an archive of this material back in the day. I knew it was there at one point, but had completely forgotten about it. Then one day I opened the wrong drawer on the microfilm cabinet and BAM. MICROFICHE. I was reminded that this stuff was still taking up residence.
